This is a very interesting report!! When I was teen till 40, my mom always said I am too serious in my life. never laugh. I may die of heart illness.
This reconfirmed the Guru like Buddha, Lao Tze saying of a person must use laughing to relax him/herself.
Without these scientifically prove study, people would say I just blindly belief in these Guru said.
A Hearty Laugh Helps Keep a Healthy Heart
A new study suggests that laughter actually does help keep your heart healthier by relaxing your blood vessels increasing blood flow through your body.
The study was presented at the American College of Cardiology and conducted by Michael Miller of the University of Maryland Medical Center. 20 volunteers were involved in the study. They were tested for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood-sugar levels and how their blood vessels reacted to stress and humor.
The volunteers were shown scenes from two different movies to cause stress and laughter. First, they watched the opening few minutes of Steven Spielberg's World War II epic 'Saving Private Ryan' with its bloody battle sequences. Then, for laughter, the subjects viewed a scene from the Farrelly brothers comedy 'Kingpin.'
After measuring 160 blood vessels, it was found that laughing relaxed blood vessels in 19 of the 20 volunteers in the study. Miller believes that the reaction is caused by nitric oxide which causes blood vessels to relax.
'The magnitude of change we saw is similar to the benefit we might see with aerobic activity, but without the aches, pains and muscle tension associated with exercise,' Miller said. 'When you laugh, you have less wear on your joints, and you don't have to worry about calories from chocolate. A good belly laugh a day would be a big step toward heart health.'
Miller said he hopes to replicate the study with more volunteers and over a two-to-five year period.
If the results of the study hold up, don't be surprised if your doctor tells you someday to watch two comedies and call him in the morning.
